For Global Tracheostomy Tube Awareness week 2022, individuals with tracheostomy, parents of children with tracheostomy and clinicians working with those with tracheostomy are encouraged to submit to [email protected] Individuals and parents with children may submit photos, videos and information about life with a tracheostomy. Clinicians working with those with tracheostomy may submit information about working with patients with tracheostomy.
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought attention to the general public regarding mechanical ventilation and infection control prevention. The public is less aware about tracheostomy procedures. These procedures are typically performed following prolonged mechanical ventilation. Many patients receiving mechanical ventilation due to Covid-19, may be unable to be weaned and extubated safely. Therefore a tracheostomy procedure might be beneficial. There are also individuals who have had a tracheostomy prior to the pandemic. The reason for the tracheostomy tube varies. Adults as well as babies may have a tracheostomy tube. The American College of Chest Physicians has provided Care Recommendations for the Home Based Ventilation Patient Undergoing Therapy for the Known or Suspected Respiratory Viral Infection with Covid-19. To honor Tracheostomy Tube Awareness Week, we will provide a brief understanding of the tracheostomy and show some stories of those who have a tracheostomy.There was a problem reporting this post.
