A multidisciplinary tracheostomy team has been shown to improve outcomes such as improved speaking valve use, reduced LOS, reduced time to decannulation. The webinar begins with an overview of tracheostomy teams and a general guide to forming a tracheostomy team. Linda Williams then discusses coordinating trauma, otolaryngology head and neck surgery, thoracic, pulmonary and anesthesia groups at Hershey Medical Center. How to Form a Tracheostomy Team Webinar follows Linda’s journey of how she started a tracheostomy team, different clinical roles, barriers of forming a tracheostomy team, policies/procedures and standardization to improve quality of care for this patient population, their families and staff. A flow chart is provided to organize clinicians from admission to discharge. This course is for physicians, nurses, speech-language pathologists, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners and other clinicians working with patients with tracheostomy. This course is available for 0.2 ASHA CEUs.

Linda Williams, RRT is a Respiratory Care Practitioner at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center where she is the coordinator and creator of Multidisciplinary Trach Team. Previously, she worked as a Respiratory Care Practitioner for The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
