Tracheostomy Basics: A Primer for Healthcare Professionals. This recorded course reviews the anatomy and physiology of the upper aerodigestive system, focusing on the impact of tracheostomy on voice, swallowing, humidification, and secretion management. Rationale for tracheotomy, and the various types of tracheostomy tubes and their components are discussed. Additionally, teamwork, appropriate cuff management techniques, use of artificial humidification and speaking valves are emphasized for comprehensive care.

Course Presenter: Carmin Bartow, MS CCC-SLP, BCS-S
Carmin Bartow, M.S., CCC-SLP, BCS-S is a speech pathologist with over 20 years of clinical experience treating patients in acute care. She has special interest in swallowing and swallowing disorders, head and neck cancer, and tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation. She has recently joined Atos Medical. as a full time Tracheostomy Clinical Educator.
